1953 Schwinn Straight Bar Klunker Bicycle Complete Crupi Redline Shimano Brooks

This is a re listing of the 1953 Schwinn Klunker bicycle as shown. I built this bike almost 10 years ago for myself and rode it intermittently. I’ve got too many bikes and too few years so I’m passing along some of my passion. This bike is based on a 1953 Schwinn straight bar Hornet ( serial number A24784 rear dropout) . It has an American Beauty head badge that I added . I also added a 1981 Schwinn Sidewinder fork that has nice chrome. The wheels are first generation Crupi BMX sealed bearings laced to original Ukai rims with stainless spokes. The wheels are straight and stiff with no flat spots or dings. Tires are Bontrager 2.125 street but good on dirt. . The cranks are Redline 175mm with BMX crank adapter and Pete’s Sprockets OG sprocket The pedals are NOS Wellgo beartrap BMX 9/16”. The brakes are Shimano cantilever on old school ACS cantilever adapters. The adapters allow cantilever brakes to be used without ruining original finish by brazing. These work great and feel just like braze-ons. Levers are Dia Compe killers. The 6 speeds are controlled by Shimano Deore thumb shifter . The seat is a nice Brooks B-72 with no cracks at rivets and nice pliable leather ( not rock hard) the seat post is Schwinn original and is extra strong and long. Bike is suitable for riders 5’-6’ 2”) Stem is forged SR bmx snd bars are modern klunker . Included are matching Schwinn Hornet fenders and chain guard that attach easily snd make the bike more a city cruiser, see last picture Like I said previously, I built this for myself with no consideration for cost , strictly for riding ease. This makes for a very durable snd nice handling bike. It has plenty of gears and brakes for most anything. It’s pretty much unstoppable in sand and snow and handles nicely in trails.I’ve worked at,owned and operated in bike shops my whole life. I was a Schwinn dealer for 29 years I’ve built thousands of bikes You can be sure of the built in quality and attention to detail in this (and any) bike from me.
